Subject: coe-staff: UO Syllabus Requirements Fall 2025

**** This email was sent on behalf of Edward M Olivos, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs ****

Greetings folks. Welcome back to fall term. I would like to direct everyone who is teaching this fall to the Syllabus Requirement Page<https://provost.uoregon.edu/syllabus-requirement-undergraduate-and-graduate-policy> from the Office of the Provost. As you finalize your syllabi please be sure to include the required information. Also:

 1. Be aware that the syllabus must be made available to students on the first day of class, or sooner.

 2. The absence policy should be clear and consistent with the Senate's "Course Attendance and Engagement" Policy<https://teaching.uoregon.edu/enacting-senates-course-attendance-and-engagement-policy-0>

 3. Faculty are discouraged from including university policies on their syllabi since every Canvas course site is now linked to the University Course Policies<https://teaching.uoregon.edu/university-course-policies> page. This assures the most up to date information.

 4. It is suggested to include a statement re: use of AI in the course (how it can and cannot be used in assignments, etc.)

 5. Please be sure to include the following blurb in your syllabus.

 Grievance Policy
A student or group of students of the College of Education may appeal decisions or actions
pertaining to admissions, programs, evaluation of performance and program retention and
completion. Students who decide to file a grievance should follow University student grievance
procedures and/or consult with the College Associate Dean for Academic Affairs: Edward M. Olivos at emolivos at uoregon.edu<mailto:emolivos at uoregon.edu> or 541-346-2983.

Thanks everyone. If you would like additional resources or syllabus templates, the following page<https://teaching.uoregon.edu/syllabus-essentials> is very useful. Also, feel free to reach out to me.
