As many of you may know, I am currently serving as the COE representative on the Human Subjects Research Advisory Committee (HSRAC). The goal of this committee is to help build strong relationships between researchers and Research Compliance Services (RCS) to facilitate an expedient, compliant, and ethical manner in conducting human subjects research on campus. Our committee serves to provide guidance to RCS based on feedback from researchers, including strategies to increase communication, training, and outreach. Such efforts are aligned with the goals of the continuous quality improvement action plan of the IRB<https://research.uoregon.edu/irb-process-update>. We know that there have been a number of growing pains in the past few years related to human subjects research; RCS is eager to work with us to make sure the processes are working for all!

In line with these goals, I would encourage you to reach out to me with any feedback you would like me to share on behalf of COE researchers. This ideally would include both strengths as well as opportunities for growth. You are more than welcome to reach out to me directly via email (sshune at uoregon.edu<mailto:sshune at uoregon.edu>). I have also set up a brief Qualtrics here if you would prefer here<https://oregon.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3q5cLFjutHF7S9U>. Please do let me know as ideas, concerns, or comments arise - I welcome regular feedback!

I also would like to share a few additional updates on behalf of the HSRAC and RCS:

  1. RCS Office Hours are held via Teams on the days and times indicated below. No appointment is needed. Click the link below during the time period noted to join remotely.

Or connect via email or teams (researchcompliance at uoregon.edu<mailto:researchcompliance at uoregon.edu>).

  1. Just a reminder to PIs who have not migrated all protocols into RAP to get it done as the timeline is nearing for mandatory migration. If the protocol is no longer active, please complete the continuing review form for a study closure (RAP guidance on CRs and Closures<https://research.uoregon.edu/sites/default/files/2023-08/hrp-960_-_investigator_-_continuing_review_study_closure_0.pdf>). Starting in March, migration will need to occur before a modification is submitted for review for studies that aren’t currently migrated. More info here: Transition/Migration website<https://research.uoregon.edu/manage/research-integrity-compliance/human-subjects-research/transitioning-studies-rap>
  2. Look on RCS’s website for new training and education opportunities (e.g., new and revised guidance on research plan development, and consent forms/procedures) at https://research.uoregon.edu/manage/integrity-compliance/human-subjects-research

Thanks,
Samantha

The University of Oregon is located within the traditional homelands of the Southern Kalapuya. Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855, Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to the Coast Reservation in Western Oregon. Today, descendants are citizens of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians of Oregon.
