Dear CPSY Students & Advisors,
Although this information will be of most interest to students who will be entering their 4th or 5th years next year, for the sake of maximal transparency, I am writing to update our whole community on the status of the HEDCO GE position and other GE positions:
* HEDCO GE: The HEDCO GE position has historically been open to students in their 5th year of the program. Unfortunately, CPSY was notified this term that this position will now be considered part of the annual allotment of CPHS GE positions and, therefore, will only be available to students who will have guaranteed funding (except under extraordinary circumstances). As fulfilling the duties of the HEDCO GE requires that a student have completed both the adult practicum in the CPC and the child and family practicum in the CFC, functionally, this role will now largely be restricted to 4th-year students. I'm sure this news is disappointing to students who will be entering their 5th year, and to students in other years who were banking on the availability of this position when they reach their 5th year.
* Students who are interested in being considered for the HEDCO GE position should indicate their interest in the survey Kristen will send out about all CPHS GE positions in the spring term. This survey will only be sent to students who will have guaranteed funding next year.
* AEC GEs: I'm delighted to announce that the COE Dean has agreed to continue to share costs necessary for the AEC to offer GE positions and that these positions, if offered, would remain open to 5th-year CPSY students. In her last email to me on 3/5/2025, Senior Director of the AEC (Dr. Norma Kehdi) stated "We are planning to post the GE positions just before Spring term, so when we do, I can send you/Leslie the link to refer students to the application process." However, I have not, as yet, received the link from Dr. Kehdi. I know that budget constraints have been a consideration in the past on whether the AEC would continue to offer GE positions; such budget constraints may also be considerations now. Thus, until such time as these positions are posted, I strongly advise that students who will be entering their 5th year work under the assumption that the AEC positions may not be offered. That is, do not delay applying to other GE positions waiting for the AEC GE positions to be posted.
* Additionally, please note, CPSY recently learned that Dr. Kehdi will no longer be able to provide clinical supervision, meaning that CPSY students will no longer be able to count any AEC GE hours toward their internship application, as there will be no licensed supervisor on-site. This should not impact students if they seek out this GE in their final year, as only hours accrued through October 1 are counted toward the AAPI.
* Ballmer GEs: I remain hopeful that there may be additional GEs positions open to 5th-year CPSY students via the Ballmer Institute; however, I cannot confirm the availability of these positions at this time or if they will be open to students without guaranteed funding.
Students who will be entering their 5th year next year are strongly encouraged to check the Division of Graduate Studies' (DGS) GE Job Opening page (https://graduatestudies.uoregon.edu/ge-job-openings-0) and Handshake (https://uoregon.joinhandshake.com/login) routinely, starting now, for available GE positions (i.e., check these websites at least weekly), to ensure that you don't miss a position announcement for which you would be qualified. There are already multiple positions listed for AY 25-26, including two GE positions with the DGS for which CPSY students might be well qualified:

* https://graduatestudies.uoregon.edu/graduate-student-support-specialist-academic-equity (DEADLINE: April 11)
Please reach out with any questions.
Best,
Jess
