cpsylist: Students: Important reminder

Dear Student Colleagues,

This is just a reminder that three courses that may have been on your program plans are no longer required: CPSY 643 Comm Prev & Interv, SPSY Intro to Consultation, and SPSY Developmental Psychopathology.

The removal of these courses was based on Decennial review feedback.  (Remember we had a Decennial Review last year involving preparation of a self-study, a site visit by an external review team, and recommendations to our department for improving quality?) One element of feedback was to consider reducing the number of courses our students take as one means to help increase student research productivity. So we consulted with you (cohort by cohort) and among faculty, and took into consideration the larger context and changes (specifically, with the addition of the 3 prev sci programs and new faculty expertise, we added coursework that would have had overlap with CPSY 643) to determine courses we could remove without adversely affecting our APA accreditation.

The removal of these courses went through approval processes in the respective curriculum committees of both the College of Education and the University of Oregon.

What does this mean for you?

You don't have to take any of those classes if you haven't yet taken them. You can take other elective courses- and we have some awesome new courses offered through Prevention Science (explore the website and the class schedules for more info). You can take more advanced stats and methods courses. You can take NO additional classes and work on your dissertation proposal and publish your SAP and other scholarly masterpieces.  Talk with your advisor. Happy planning.
