Dear Community Members and Faculty,


It is our pleasure to announce that M.E.Ch.A. de UO will be hosting the 13th annual Raza Unida Youth Conference (RUYC) on May 5th, 2017. RUYC is an all day event in which we invite Latinx high school students from Lane County and other parts of the State to come to the University of Oregon and participate in a day filled with workshops, and keynote speakers, which gives students the opportunity to build relationships and networks in the community. This year, we are expecting to make our Latinx students’ experiences memorable and change their lives by empowering them as students of color.

M.E.Ch.A. (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicanx de Aztlán) is a student organization that has been active on the University of Oregon Campus for more than thirty years. We strive to promote awareness on issues related to Latinxs on campus and in the community. One of our primary goals is the recruitment and retention of Oregon’s Chicanx and Latinx students in higher education. M.E.Ch.A.’s intent is to ensure that Chicanx and Latinx cultures and philosophies are being represented at the University of Oregon and in our surrounding communities.

The motto of Raza Unida Youth Conference is Educación; El Derecho De La Raza! (Education; the Right of the People!). With this in mind, this year’s conference theme will be My Existence is Resistance (Mi existir es resistir) as a reminder to our community that our survival is revolutionary.

We are asking and inviting community members, alumni, university students and faculty to present workshops during RUYC, discussing topics such as culture, identity, education, gender, sexuality, and immigration.  We hope that both the students and you, the presenter, will gain a stronger sense of community, knowledge, and will feel invested in our students’ lives and future education.

If you choose to participate as a workshop presenter, please let us know by submitting your workshop proposal via this link: https://goo.gl/forms/pl1u3GWcfw5UKzB73. Multiple workshops are also welcomed and encouraged.  Presenters are invited to stay for the duration of the conference and are welcomed to lunch. Attached you will find a schedule for the conference. Please submit your workshop proposal to us no later than March 10th.
