Hello,
I'm looking for a few good volunteers! Help our students graduate in style by volunteering to help out at our COE Commencement Ceremony taking place at Hayward Field on Monday, June 15th. Yes, this is an outdoor ceremony once again! I will need volunteers starting as early as 10 am all the way through the ceremony clean up, ending at around 3 pm. The ceremony itself takes place from 1 pm - 3 pm.
I have some basic information on the ceremony, and I've attached a map of the field to give you an idea of what the layout is. For those of you who participated in our Matt Knight Arena ceremonies a few years back, this will seem much like that. We are back to having student and faculty seating on the field and the guest seating separate from that.
While I don't yet have a full grasp of the volunteer tasks, most should remain much the same as last year. Most of the tasks relate to things such as checking students in, staffing an information table or helping manage the flow of students, family, and friends into the seating area at the start of the ceremony and during the ceremony. As our faculty members participate in the ceremony itself, we rely on Classified and OA staff to make this event happen. I will only put you on the volunteer list if you send me an email-I know some of you have spoken to me in passing about wanting to volunteer, but just in case I didn't record that, please respond to this email to make sure I know you want to help.
The majority of volunteers will be needed from 11 am - 3 pm and some tasks will last the entire time. If you've volunteered in the past and wish to do a specific job, let me know and I'll try to match you with your preference. Once I've collected the names, I'll put out a list of volunteers and tasks and meet with people to talk about those tasks.
Here's a general idea of some volunteer opportunities:
Information Tables and Crowd Control-helping families and guests take their seats before the ceremony begins.
VIP/Accessible Seating-helping folks find their seats in our reserved seating area
Stage set up-putting out water and programs on the stage
Student Check-In-helping students get their name card and getting them in line
Line Guides-managing the student lines during the ceremony itself
Thank you for supporting this important day for our students and their families. For more information on commencement, feel free to send me any questions or visit our website at https://education.uoregon.edu/commencement.
