Dear COE faculty and PSI scientists,

I received this email (as did many of you who are also NIH-funded researchers). I encourage you to participate and share your story regarding the impact of NIH funding on your career and the impact of the current cuts and atmosphere of uncertainty. For those who are early career (or who have mentored early career faculty), please speak to the importance of NIH funding to launch successful careers.

I would like to personally invite Stephanie De Anda, Lauren Cycyk, Rhonda Nese, Steph Shire, Liz Budd, Dave DeGarmo, Fred Sabb, Anne Marie Mauricio, John Seeley, Beth Stormshak, Leslie Leve, Camille Cioffi, Emily Tanner-Smith, Nichole Kelley, Ashley Linden-Carmichael, and any others who wish to contribute to please do so!

We need our collective stories of impact in this moment of time.

Thanks for considering,
Laura Lee

Subject: 6/6 deadline to contribute "My Why" to United for Medical Research

Greetings:

This email is being sent to NIH-funded researchers at UO along with key partners.

The purpose of the email is to flag an opportunity from United for Medical Research (UMR) to share stories that highlight the value and impact of NIH-funded research. UMR<https://www.unitedformedicalresearch.org/> is a national coalition that includes AAU and APLU and works to support strong federal investment in medical research.

Their new campaign, "My Why,"<https://www.unitedformedicalresearch.org/my-why/> will feature personal stories from researchers, patients, and others whose lives or careers have been shaped by NIH funding. These stories will be used in outreach to Congress, policymakers, and the media to make the case for maintaining a strong NIH.

UMR is looking for:

  *   Researchers at all stages of their careers whose journey has been supported in some way by NIH funding - those who are affected by the current cuts and atmosphere of uncertainty as well as those who can speak to the importance of NIH funding to launching their careers or to their ability to mentor others;
  * Patients and families who have benefitted from NIH research, are participants in clinical trials, and/or hope that medical research will provide insights and innovations to improve or save their lives; and
  * Industry members and others who don't fall into the categories above yet have important stories of the impact of NIH funding on their education, career, or lives.

If you're interested in participating, please submit your story and a photo using this form by June 6: https://forms.gle/yjx5L8gh77pAxpUi6

UMR may create a short profile and graphic for submissions to share online and in their communications efforts.

I'm aware that you may have seen this call to action from other sources and that there is strong interest in making sure opportunities like this are broadly shared. Hence, the reason for this potentially duplicative email.

Thanks for considering-and for all you do to advance research at UO. -Betsy
