Dear College of Education Community,

We write today following the released footage of Tyre Nichols' brutal murder, once again united by a shared outrage and devastation, and by a sense of immobilizing horror.

Again today, we struggled with the words to say to our shared community about violence, about death, about the flagrant disregard for the humanity, and about abusive displays of power. But we wanted to let you know that we saw it too. It hurt us too. It stopped us in our tracks, affected our work, and intruded into our thoughts too.

Today on yet another heartbreaking Monday, we echo the sentiments that we shared at an earlier tragedy and frankly hope that we never learn exactly how to perfectly contextualize images of murder in a summary email to our community. In fact, we hope to always struggle for the words and wish that we didn't have to find them. We share the fear that the day we get "good at" compartmentalizing this particular brand of human behavior, will be an even sadder day for us all.
