Dear COE faculty and staff,
It was wonderful to see so many of you today at the end-of-the-year lunch. Coming together as a community and taking time to enjoy wonderful food and conversation is something I cherish and appreciate about us. I wish to extend my gratitude to Lisa Fortin and team for organizing such a wonderful tropical experience for us to enjoy! The pineapple upside down cake did not disappoint!
As we wrap up the term and sprint to the fall quarter finish line, I would like to congratulate you on a successful start to the academic year. We've accomplished many things on behalf of our College of Education students and community, and I appreciate the time, care, and commitment each of you brings. I hope to see you all at Friday's College of Education Faculty/Staff meeting from 1:30 - 3:00 pm. We will meet in person in HEDCO 220 and have a Zoom option to join remotely.
I'll wrap this up with a final thought. The more things change on campus, the more I'm reminded that our commitment and passion in the College of Education for serving students in the classroom, community, and through our research and outreach does not falter.
I'm grateful to be a part of our College. Thanks for joining me on this journey.
Warmly,
Laura Lee
Updates and Upcoming:
* IHP Proposals: Thank you to department faculty who are already in the process of developing proposals for the AY 2023 - 2024 Institutional Hiring Plan (IHP) for Tenure Track hiring across campus. We are attaching some additional process details to guide your work. Feel free to direct any questions regarding proposal details to your Department Heads or to Dean McIntyre as you proceed. Wishing us the best with this year's submissions.
* CoDaC Faculty Writing Circles: The Center on Diversity and Community (CoDaC) offers weekly faculty writing circles to help you protect significant time for the writing and research projects that are important to you. Circles help keep you motivated and maintain your progress. Along the way, you'll meet faculty from all over the university and take advantage of the positive accountability and support we provide each other. All faculty are welcome. Circles support all faculty and the writing/research projects that are important to you. Our participants cite our circles' success in helping them meet their goals for their writing projects and in creating a valued intellectual community. Join us! Below please find details, our winter writing circle schedule, and the link to sign up.
o Writing circles begin week 1 of Winter Term, on Monday, January 9. They will run through the end of term. This winter we are offering 7 virtual and 5 in-person circles, daily M-F.
o For virtual circles, your circle leader will send you the Zoom or Teams link before the circles begin. On Wednesday mornings, we offer a virtual circle for parents and caregivers. Parents and caregivers are welcome and present in all of our circles and will find supportive colleagues. Circles specified as Caregiver circles offer even more focused support related to the challenges of writing during the pandemic and childcare crisis while parenting/caregiving.
o In-person circles take place in CoDaC, in the basement of Susan Campbell Hall. There is a variety of seating - and snacks - available in the CoDaC space.
o How to sign up
o In responding to our scheduling poll, please include your full name and email. Click on all times in the left column that would work well for you. This helps me get everyone into a circle convenient to them. You should also indicate times that could work in the right column. However, don't click on times that you wouldn't be able to protect and attend consistently, outside of research/conference travel and other necessary absences. Feel free to email me with questions about scheduling.

Accolades:
* The Advising Team recently had an outstanding week (plus) of drop-in advising. Over the course of 6-days the Student Academic Services (SAS) Office in Suite 130 functioned as a high-pace, high-focus operation dedicated to providing COE undergraduates in FHS, CDS, and EDF with answers to questions around their: Winter term schedule planning, Fall term progress, core education, as well as other general and specific information on academic programs in the college (majors, minors, and certificates). Please join me in extending kudos to the COE Advising Team members: Angel Dorantes, Emma Bjorngard Basayne, Angela Dornbusch, and Mary Marchetti for their unwavering support of our students' success. Over the 6 days our 4 advisors (2-advisors on call per day) served 103 students in individual sessions. With special additional thanks to the entire SAS office staff team for their "all hands on deck" support during the high-action period of scheduling and hosting.
