Hello,
The annual Governor's State Employees Food Drive is the largest food drive benefiting the Oregon Food Bank Network. Last year the UO donated over $87,000 in cash and 1,334 pounds of food. The drive starts today and runs through February 28.

Every dollar donated to FOOD For Lane County in the month of February will be matched up to $100,000, thanks to a generous donor. For every dollar donated, FOOD For Lane County Can access and distribute 3 meals. Double your impact today.

How to donate
The majority of donations this year will be via payroll deduction, credit card, or shelf-stable food items.

The most impactful way to give is with a monetary donation! For every $1 donated, approximately 3 meals can be provided to someone in our community.

  1. One-time or recurring payroll deductions can be set up through UO Forms<https://forms.uoregon.edu/document/launch/governors-state-employees-food-drive>. (If you set up a monthly recurring donation in 2021, that ends this month!) You can designate which Oregon regional food bank you would like to receive your donation through this option. Your DUO login will be required.

  1. Donate with a credit or debit card online at the COE Food Drive website<https://fflc.akaraisin.com/ui/UOGov22/t/f7f38ef0931a40d781370561ebc1703c>. You don’t have to be a member of the team to donate, just click on the donate link.

  1. You can find a food barrel in the HEDCO lobby or you can save food items for direct donation to the Student Food Pantry and bring them to the EMU Fishbowl Terrace on Wednesday February 16 from 10:00 – 4:30<https://urldefense.com/v3/__http:/customermailengagement.localist.com/ls/click?upn=z1S9DJ0addub39G-2Bs3OCgRAj-2F-2BnT08ztuF0sKmV-2Blehe9PzfG-2Bfs6GzTlz2ieWLGqJtPAhB9iUjSKN63R2Jr31YTs8431u5fLVJK7vygfW1d-2BiHcwqEa4WFSgN6hD0UbWei3_vgd6c9vB7-2Fhj9n-2FyPNcOpUn0XeydQgIHZUiRE-2BerS8zBJirtteCbnClKGGqBAqWN-2BN5jyWJEOSGcgJl8HIKkUq2WVh6-2BHntorrJRpM7o-2F8YtJ-2BmphCJADXh7o4DREzyzwd4HHsCs8JPC8vdtQ84D6KHru497bbf5spTUasLLq2wXNnisz1b9brpnlk-2BdYQen4WXUGJkidU4iGp5kqnB8cQ-3D-3D__;!!C5qS4YX3!X2kT7a_-zPyxoOjlUXrxddDCnLbc7fMu6fHRNsk_kTOUX1dgcmO5oz4E_DzPeiE$>

Across the state of Oregon 1 in 8 neighbors are estimated to have experienced food insecurity in 2021— meaning they won’t have had regular access to the foods they need to lead a healthy life.

  * Families facing hunger may not necessarily be food insecure all the time. The need for emergency food often reflects a family’s need to make trade-offs between housing or medical bills and buying groceries.
  * Most adult food-assistance recipients are working, retired, looking for work, or are disabled.
  * Adults whose families lost jobs during the pandemic were twice as likely to report food insecurity.
  * BIPOC communities continuously experience hunger disproportionately and the recovery has been much slower than white counterparts. Discriminatory policies and practices have resulted in these communities to be more likely to live in poverty, more likely to face unemployment<https://www.feedingamerica.org/hunger-blog/pandemic-unemployment-food-banks>, and have fewer financial resources like savings or property than their white counterparts. All of these factors increase someone's likelihood to experience hunger.

Thank you for your efforts to raise food and funds for the Oregon Food Bank Network and FOOD for Lane County.

Thank you!
Lisa Fortin and Marty Hurst
