Dear COE faculty and staff,

I hope you're enjoying the summer and doing something every day that brings you joy. If you're like me, it's easy to run on empty. After a while, running on fumes feels normal...yet I know it's not healthy or sustainable. I've been spending time thinking about how to "fill my cup". I noticed that when I'm around others who show a genuine interest and foster a sense of community, I can more easily manage the stress of day-to-day challenges. To that end, I am motivated to help foster a caring community in our College of Education. In particular, I'm challenging myself to be more intentional about the ways that I create a sense of belonginess - for our students, our staff, our faculty, community partners, alumni, and friends. I'm meeting with faculty, taking time to talk with staff, students, and alumni, and am open to listening and hearing from people who hold different perspectives. Please reach out. I would love to hear from you.

As we wrap up summer and look to fall, I'll be calling on each of you to join me in being intentional about creating a sense of belonginess in our community. I have more to share on this, but I'll wait until fall to discuss my plan for fostering connections. I also look forward to laying out my vision for the upcoming academic year and beyond. I may be the interim dean, but I hope to be here for a long time. I look forward to sharing my goals and creating a plan with you that reflects our college priorities and values.

For now...happy summer.

Warmly,
Laura Lee
