Dear Faculty and Staff,
I just returned from a round of development work in the San Francisco Bay Area to see that we have a new video<https://education.uoregon.edu/> streaming on our website landing page. The video is designed to be visually appealing, inclusive of ample greenery, lovely drone footage of Lokey, HEDCO, walkways, and an uplifting view of the Cascade Range. (By the way, our previous landing page video was shot in 2019.) The overarching goal is to invite prospective students to take a closer look at our academic programs, which we know is occurring. For example, the 30-day summary with change over previous period shows that the COE Twitter and Facebook accounts have had an increase of 51.5% in mentions, and an increase of 26.3% in followers and profile visits. We also have an average of 71,000 content engagements for September 2021, compared to 17,000 engagements in September 2020, and only 7,100 in September 2019. In the last 30 days, the COE Instagram has increased 120% in content interactions with 940 total posts and 1,583 followers.
Emily Barker led the work on our new video along with Juls Davis, and in collaboration with Andrea Olson and student volunteers. Our video contractor collected a considerable amount of footage on this day, which you will see appearing in new still shots throughout the website as needed to enhance the appeal of our digital presence. I am most grateful to Juls Davis and Emily Barker for their highly skilled and professional website and social media work.
Returning to the development work of this past weekend, it was as inspiring as ever to meet with our impressive alumni. Their accomplishments are world class, including national and international leadership in counseling psychology, special education, curriculum and instruction, educational technology, and other fields. These visits always provide a vivid reminder of the importance of the work we do every day.
Regards,
Randy
Updates and Upcoming:
* Celebrating Heritage months: In recognition of this month's LatinX heritage month, we invite COE community members to suggest ways in which we can celebrate any specific part or parts of the LatinX culture in a visible way either in our college complex or on our website. LatinX Heritage Month, or Hispanic Heritage month (official government designation), recognizes and honors the enduring contributions and importance of LatinX Americans to the U.S. and celebrates the many heritages and cultures of Americans from or with ancestors from Mexico, the Caribbean, Spain, and Central and South America. We hope to use the University's marked heritage months regularly as an opportunity to open our college community to the celebration of the wide array of individuals and histories that make up our local and extended community. Feel free to submit heritage month event, art, or display suggestions to Lisa Fortin lfortin at uoregon.edu<mailto:lfortin at uoregon.edu> to be reviewed according our buildings' facility and donor specifications.
* From Sabrina Madison-Cannon, MFA, Phyllis and Andrew Berwick Dean, and Professor of Dance. I'm delighted to write to you about a special opportunity. The School of Music and Dance is relaunching the Suzuki Strings Program with returning director and founder, Shelley Rich!
[A group of people playing instruments Description automatically generated with medium confidence]As a member of the UO family, we are offering you early access and an opportunity to work directly with Shelley. Many of you have young children, grandchildren, or friends in the UO community who could benefit from participating in this wonderful program.
The UO Community Music Institute (CMI) has served the Eugene/Springfield community since 1993, providing top notch musical experiences for toddlers through high school seniors, and has included the Suzuki Strings Program since 1997. Shelley was an integral part of CMI and the main reason the program was so successful in the early years. We are fortunate to have her experience and leadership return to the University of Oregon.
An informational meeting for parents and prospective students will be held on Saturday, October 16 at 11am in Room 178 of the Frohnmayer Music Building on the UO Campus.
When is the Informational Meeting? Saturday, October 16 from 11am-12:15pm
Where is the Meeting? Room 178 of the Frohnmayer Music Building, 961 East 18th Street
Who Should Attend? Prospective students (ages 4-8) and their parents to learn how involvement in CMI Suzuki Strings can provide purposeful activity, positive growth, and powerful arts-integration opportunities!
Questions? Email Carla at cmi at uoregon.edu<mailto:cmi at uoregon.edu>
