coe-staff: Departure of Nancy Nelson and Hank Fien

Dear Faculty and Staff,

It is with mixed emotions that I announce the hire of Nancy, Assistant Professor, and Hank, Endowed Professor, by the Boston University Wheelock College of Education and Human Development. On the one hand, these are wonderful career opportunities that give testimony to the importance of Nancy and Hank’s careers to date. They have many UO accomplishments of which they can be proud. Nancy’s record of research, including highly competitive research grants and publications, classroom teaching, and service is exceptional. And Hank’s record of accomplishments in teaching, research, and service is equally exemplary. In addition, Hanks’ Leadership of the Center on Teaching and Learning (CTL) faculty and staff has lifted the careers of many in our college and around the country.

Yet we all know that Hank and Nancy’s departure is a loss for our institution. We will continue, however, to benefit from the wake left by their contributions for years to come. And they will always be members of our COE alumni community, along with their new dean, David Chard.

Please join me in wishing Hank and Nancy farewell and good luck.
