Greetings, COE Students, Staff and Faculty,
Your schedule permitting, I encourage you to watch the Inauguration of President-Elect Biden and Vice President-Elect Harris tomorrow. I plan on tuning in about 8:30 am, Pacific Time, to view the swearing in ceremony scheduled for noon, Eastern Time.
The National Academy of Education<https://naeducation.org/civic-reasoning-and-discourse/> launched a civil reasoning and discourse initiative four years ago with the stated goal of improving “…students’ learning in these areas by ensuring that the pedagogy, curriculum, and learning environments that they experience are informed by the best available evidence, and to expand the responsibility for such learning beyond traditional civics classes”. A presidential inauguration is a perfect opportunity to foster learning, “beyond traditional civics classes”.
I have only attended one inauguration, but I did find the ceremonies to be both educational and inspirational. I hope that you have the same experience.
I understand that you may already be scheduled at this time. Students, you will have to seek approval of your instructor to miss class. Staff, please seek the same allowance from your direct supervisor.
Until tomorrow,
Randy
