Dear CoE Classified Staff, Student Workers, and Officers of Administration,

I appreciate your efforts to maintain academic continuity for our students. I know that our continuity efforts can be demanding as you carry out your duties in the difficult context of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) threat. Although this work context is challenging, we will heed President Schill’s directive to keep the campus open and perform “normal functions.”

Simultaneously, I am confident that many of our skilled and experienced staff can perform their normal functions utilizing flexible work options for a short period of time - the next two weeks, from Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 27. Consequently, I ask that your supervisors allow as many of you as possible to exercise flexible work options, including telecommuting. Please contact your supervisor about arranging a flexible work schedule option during this two-week period, particularly if you are a member of a Coronavirus vulnerable population (“Older adults” or “People who have serious chronic medical conditions like: Heart disease, Diabetes, Lung disease;” See CDC information at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/specific-groups/high-risk-complications.html). The university flexible work options policy may be found at https://policies.uoregon.edu/vol-5-human-resources/ch-4-workplace/flexib...<https://policies.uoregon.edu/vol-5-human-resources/ch-4-workplace/flexible-work-arrangements>. Please work with your supervisor to complete either the “telecommuting” or “flexible work” agreement forms and submit the appropriate form to Amy Green for my signature. I am aware that the great variety of work performed by our staff will necessitate different arrangements for each employee (e.g., work assignments that student workers can complete at home, alternative work day hours to accommodate child care needs due to school closures, etc.), and that some individuals who perform essential work duties may not be able to utilize flexible work options.

Again, I am confident that our classified staff, student workers, officers of administration, and their supervisors can continue to perform their normal duties while adopting flexible work options for this short period of time. Thank you for understanding our need to meet multiple and competing demands as we try to protect the health and well-being of all who work in our college.

Wishing everyone well,

Randy
