Hello,

Registration is now open for the UOEXCEL seminar, “Improving Reading Achievement for Students with Dyslexia.” This course will describe current dyslexia legislation in Oregon and effective screening and identification practices. The three-part course will also summarize current research evidence on effective reading instruction for students with or at risk for dyslexia; make actionable the recommendations of a recently released Institute of Education Sciences practice guide focused on building students’ reading skills in grades K-3; and provide examples of methods to intensify interventions to meet the needs of students with dyslexia. See the attached flyer for more information or visit our website at http://uoexcel.uoregon.edu/events/improving-reading/. For any questions, please email uoexcel at uoregon.edu<mailto:uoexcel at uoregon.edu>.

The three-part course will be presented by renowned experts in literacy assessment and instruction, including Drs. Don Compton, Yaacov Petscher, Hank Fien, Joe Dimino, Evelyn Johnson, and Scott Baker. In addition, representatives from the National Center on Improving Literacy for Students with Disabilities, Including Dyslexia (NCIL: www.improvingliteracy.org)<http://www.improvingliteracy.org)> and the UO’s Center on Teaching and Learning (www.ctl.uoregon.edu)<http://www.ctl.uoregon.edu)> will be on-hand to share literacy resources and information. Panel members in each session will include seasoned practitioners in Oregon who are implementing evidence-based strategies to support literacy development for students with dyslexia.
