coe-staff: TTF Workload Policy

The following message is sent on behalf of Dean Randy Kamphaus:

Dear TTF Faculty,

Attached, please find the version of the TTF Workload Policy that I will submit to Academic Affairs for their approval next week. I am including both a clean version and a marked-up version so that the most recent changes are evident.

To review, the policy was voted on (March 27th). I have since revised it based on comments provided by COE faculty during the voting period as well as on guidance provided by University leadership.

The TTF workload committee also had an opportunity to read this version and have shared their comments with me via Leslie Leve (committee chair). I made additional changes based on that feedback.

Per Academic Affairs guidance, the next step for me is to hold an open forum on Friday June 9th for all TTF from 11:00 - 12:00 in 230T to discuss the revisions and their rationale.  At this forum, I will speak to issues such as: (a) the history of the "standard load" section as it changed from the original proposal of 3 courses, to 5 courses, and now to 4 - 5 courses per academic year, (b) responding to faculty concerns about the course cancellation and "make up" proposal, (c) Department Head and Faculty Advisory Committee infusion of our core research mission into the standard course load definition, and (d) inclusion of the minimum course credit requirements per academic year.

As usual, our faculty burnished their reputations as devoted servants of our college by dedicating countless hours to this work. For that service, I am most grateful.

I look forward to seeing you on the 9th.
