Dear Faculty and Staff,
This is a re-send of an email that was sent at the end of June. We are re-sending in the hopes of giving all faculty an opportunity to volunteer.
***
As a reminder, each of the UO's colleges is responsible for updating certain college-policies by June 2024. The policies we are responsible for updating by June 2024 are:
Professional Responsibilities policy (for career faculty and tenured and tenure track faculty)
TTF Promotion and Tenure policy
CTF Promotion and Review policy
Teaching Evaluation policy
To maximize the faculty governance process for these policies, we plan to include:
* A broad nomination process
* A comment period after review (separate from the vote)
* Opportunity to discuss -- if possible
Mindful of the impact of the faculty service associated with these activities, we are proposing the identification of a single core-committee with rotating additional membership to engage in this work incrementally over the course of the year in the following sequence:
1. Professional responsibilities policies (Fall),
2. Promotion & tenure / promotion & review (Winter),
3. Teaching evaluation (Spring).
The general process for development of the policies is proposed here:
* Summer 2023: Core group identified
* Summer 2023: Annotated policy templates developed in COE
* Early Fall 2023: Nominations invited* for all policies (1 - 2 additional members per policy who will be rotated on or off as development transitions), chairs announced*
* Per policy: Committee drafts policy/ies
* Per policy: COE townhall hosted by committee chair (if possible)
* Per policy: Comment period
* Per policy: Vote
At present, the individuals identified for the core committee are:
* Chris Murray (P&T only)
* Lisa Mazzei
* Angie Whalen
* Ben Clarke
* Leslie Leve
* Joanna Goode
* Sylvia Thompson
(*For the development of each policy, 1 - 2 additional committee members will be included and the chair rotation will shift). Nominees must be COE core / voting faculty.)
Nominations can be submitted using the following link Faculty nomination survey Link<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/oregon.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6r0CJedVuec2Dbg__;!!C5qS4YX3!FbBpMCKc4pJ90_faAB2nmNRBN6qveAYgj4NKHxi4RKAhQd_f5pdlZD7eqybb7JrqAcm5Lu5Pn82nizMbr3SqneY$>. Nominated faculty will be considered for one policy development role. Details regarding development will be shared by the committee chair once each committee is formed, however, on average, nominees should anticipate a minimum of 10 - 14 hours of participation over a given quarter, including meetings, emails, and review.
Please respond by Wednesday September 20th. Nominees will be selected by September 22nd for the entire year, to ensure policy development activities can take place over the full course of the quarter.
Best,
Dianna
