Film: Big Shot’s Funeral
With English subtitles

A 2001 Chinese comedy film directed by Xiaogang Feng. The film stars Ge You, Rosamund Kwan and Donald Sutherland. Prestigious American director Don Tyler (Sutherland) is in Beijing to film a big budget remake - in his mind, a more authentic Chinese cultural version – of The Last Emperor (1987). However, part way through the filming, Tyler gets depressed and loses his artistic vision for the movie.

Refreshments provided.

Presented by the UO Confucius Institute

CoDaC is very pleased to be involved in hosting the UO's first TEDx conference on campus onFebruary 9, 2013 in the Global Scholars Hall Great Room. As you may know, TED is a nonprofit devoted to “Ideas Worth Spreading.” It started as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, and Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. Along with two annual conferences, TED includes the award-winning TED Talks video site (ted.com), TEDx events and many other projects and programs. TEDx events are simply TED-like events, held in other locations, under TED rules.

The theme for our event is "Curiosity & Resistance: Diversity is Critical to Thinking" and will feature an excellent lineup of speakers including:

•Brendan Bohanan, UO Associate Professor in Biology
•La Donna Forsgren, UO Assistant Professor in Theatre Arts
•Tyree Harris, UO Journalism and Communications student
•Major Caroline Jensen, United States Air Force Thunderbirds pilot
•Ian Haney Lopez, Professor of Law, UC Berkeley
•Andrew Nelson, UO Assistant Professor of Management
•Carmen Urbina, Parent, Family and Diversity Coordinator, Eugene 4J School District

Oregon architecture students can help shape Chinese cities by interning at the Shanghai Xian Dai Architectural Company, an award-winning architectural firm with over 3,000 staff. In 2010, the U of O Department of Architecture established an exchange program with Xian Dai, with Oregon students going to Shanghai for summer internships and Xian Dai staff coming to Oregon for advanced study in sustainable design. Xian Dai welcomes summer interns from U of O who would contribute knowledge of green buildings and sustainable communities. The interns will work at Xian Dai as part of their project teams, and help design and planning teams to facilitate projects. Room and board will be provided by Xian Dai and each student has to pay for travel arrangements. Students may apply for Freeman Internship Fellowships to cover travel expenses. Up to 4 students from U of O will be selected, Chinese language skills are not required.
