Here is your travel tip of the day:

Be sure to have your travelers carry the State of Oregon contract rental car corporate numbers (Enterprise, National and Hertz) with them when  they leave for a business trip.  In the case of a weather or mechanical delay, being able to rent a car using the corporate discount might come in handy and save the university money.

On the occasion that the Eugene airport is fogged in and your traveler has to land in Portland, a one way car rental using the state contract prices might be the least expensive and quickest way back to Eugene.    Same is true if a major weather event happens at the destination.  There were several instances last winter where the traveler's airport was closed.  Rather than wait out the storm, they arranged to rent a car and drive a couple of hours to the next closest airport that had flights available. (Be sure this is safe!) When an airport closes, rental cars are sold out quickly and at a high price.  Having the corporate number will assure you get the discount price.

Remember that all car rentals reimbursed under the IRS Accountable Plan must have a valid business purpose.  The corporate contracts cannot be used when traveling with family members or non UO employees and cannot be used while on personal time.
