Good Morning Campus Travel Coordinators –
THE IMPORTANCE OF REGISTERING INTERNATIONAL TRIPS
When traveling abroad it is important to register your travel with the Office of Risk Management (ORM). The primary purpose of registering international travel is so that in the event of unforeseen emergencies abroad (natural disasters or political unrest) ORM is able to work with your home department to confirm that UO faculty, staff and students are safe. ORM is excited to announce that registering your trips can now be completed online<https://uoregon-sa.terradotta.com/index.cfm?FuseAction=OneStep.Apply&Program_ID=10034> using your UO username and password. Registration is quick and once you have entered your first trip your information (name, address, etc.) will be saved for your future registrations.
In addition to registering your travel with ORM, it is recommended that faculty, staff and students register their travel plans with the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy through the State Department’s travel registration website and enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program<https://step.state.gov/step/> (STEP). STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. embassy or nearest U.S. consulate to contact you in an emergency.
THE BENEFITS OF SUPPLEMENTAL INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL INSURANCE
The Office of Risk Management strongly recommends that faculty or staff traveling with students on short-term international programs (less than one academic term) that are not managed by International Affairs, secure insurance for their program participants through ORM. Coverage includes accident and sickness, security evacuations, emergency medical evacuation, trip cancellation, trip interruption and travel assistance. The cost of this insurance is $1.91 per person per day, with a one week minimum enrollment required, which the individual or, in some cases the department or program, pays. You may request additional information in the online registration form, or by visiting our website http://orm.uoregon.edu/content/international-travel or emailing riskmanagement at uoregon.edu<mailto:riskmanagement at uoregon.edu> .
It is strongly advised that leaders of student programs complete the free online training provided by United Educators regarding short-term international programs. Please contact ORM for the access and log-in details as well as other resources that may be available.
