[Uosenateexec] FW: Dec 4th Senate Exec Meeting Agenda & Materials - Reminder

Dear Members of the Senate Executive Committee,

This is a reminder that we are scheduled to meet tomorrow, Wednesday, December 4, 2019 from 3:00 - 5:00 P.M. in Straub 253 (same location as previous meeting). I've made a slight adjustment to the schedule. As the Bioengineering proposal has not yet been approved by the Undergraduate Council, we're going to instead receive an update from the sponsors at the Senate at the Dec 11 Senate mtg, and then have this item return for full discussion and a vote at the January 8, 2020 Senate Mtg.

If you have not yet had a chance to do so, please take a few minutes to review the attached documents so that we can have a robust discussion on the Academic Administrator Hiring policy proposal (explanation contained below).

Dear Colleagues on the Senate Executive Committee,

In our next Senate Exec Meeting 12/4, we will spend 50' discussing members' views on developing a policy to guide Academic Administrator Hiring here at the UO.  To prepare for this discussion, it will be useful to review 2 existing draft policy docs attached: one prepared by Bill in Spring, 2019 and the other, a red-line version of a temporary policy in effect when Scott Coltrane was interim provost.  Also attached is an example hiring policy from Marquette U. shared by one of our UO senators, along with comparator data put together by Melanie Muenzer in the Provost's Office.

Finally, I have prepared a short set of queries that may be useful in framing our discussion, seen below (and attached).  Please come to our Wed mtg on the 4th prepared to discuss your ideas about the fundamentals of a good hiring policy that are most important to you, your constituents, and the UO.

Academic Administrator Hiring Policy--Queries:

Preparing for the Search

*         Decision to conduct an inside vs. outside search & rationale?

*         Optimal size and composition of the committee?

*         Faculty representation on the committee
