I completely agree, Anthony, and I too wonder whether there could be a way to use the Zoom software going forward to distinguish who is allowed to chat, and to allow for all senators to have access to the chat.
Thanks,
Pedro

Subject: [Uosenate] I am sad that the Zoom chat is turned off.
Dear Colleagues,
To summarize this long email message: I am sad that chat is turned off on Zoom. It contributes to me feeling alone and lonely in the Senate meeting that is happening right now.
I just sent this as a chat to Betina, Sandy, Gerard, and Alison:
—————
I believe that the four of you are all doing a very good job. I am also sad that chat is turned off on Zoom, such that we Senate members are not permitted to chat with each other during the meeting. I so value being able to send short notes to other members of the Senate, such as to say "good job" after someone speaks.
I understand (from a short Zoom chat with Sandy just now) that chat is turned off to move forward peacefully. I suppose the concern is that the Zoom meeting is open to the general public, and people could write arguably inappropriate comments into the chat.
That being said, I am sad that chat is turned off. It contributes to me feeling alone and lonely in this meeting. Thank you for your consideration.
—————
Best wishes,
Anthony
