[Uosenate] Textbook Affordability Task Force Strategic Plan--email to senate--Deadline to submit comments May 17

Hello Senate Colleagues,

For the 2020-21 academic year, a joint UO Provost Office and UO Senate taskforce has been working on putting together a strategic plan to address HB 2213 requirements and other issues regarding increasing textbook affordability.  Rayne Vieger of the library and myself are the co-chairs of this taskforce.

Our draft strategic plan is attached.  We are asking for your feedback and suggestions for ways to improve/clarify the plan.  Of particular interest to us is your input regarding Action Item 5 and 6 since they are aimed specifically at ways to enable/encourage faculty to adopt low-cost or Open Educational Resource (OER)  options for their courses.


Recognizing that this is a plan and subject to refinement over time as we work to implement it, do you think our action subitems under Item 5 would be helpful to encourage faculty to adopt such options?  Are there additional items you would like to see there to encourage low-cost or OER option adoption?  What do you perceive the obstacles are to being able to implement Item 5?
