[Uosenate] Comment on =?utf-8?Q?UO=E2=80=99s_?=HECC evaluation

Good morning, Senators,

The Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC) submits an evaluation of the public universities to the legislature every two years. UO is up this year, along with PSU and OSU. I’m attaching the evaluation and a two-page summary that was generated by the HECC staff. I’ve been invited to comment on the report at the HECC’s meeting this coming Thursday, Feb 11, on behalf of the statutory faculty.

As you’ll see, the report itself is mostly a compilation of publicly available data from accreditation reports, self-assessments, board materials, and state and federal data. The report focuses only on the priorities of the HECC (accreditation, economic impact, student access and success, affordability, and academic quality and research, collaboration, shared services, financial metrics, and board governance) and uses some interesting metrics to track each of those (e.g., one of the key measures of academic quality is the presence of  program reviews).

Nonetheless, please take a look at the report - and particularly the two-page summary that prefaces it - and send me any thoughts you’d like included in my comment. I get three whole minutes and I plan to make them count! Due to this time constraint, I can’t promise that I’ll include everything I hear, but I’ll do my best to summarize for the HECC the input I get from you. All HECC meetings are open and include a public commentary period, so if you’d like to voice your commentary directly you are welcome to do so. You can read more details about that here.
