[Uosenate] Equal Pay and CHC resolutions

Dear Senators -

I realize that the decision to withdraw the Equal Pay resolution was a bit anti-climatic, as was the decision Sam Hopkins made regarding her CHC resolution. This does not reduce the importance of bringing these sorts of things to the Senate. As I’ve seen many times over the years as a senator and senate president etc., it often takes the threat of Senate action and the associated bad publicity to get our administration to do the right thing.

I don’t mean this as a slam at the Johnson Hall leadership. It’s just a simple fact that they have many issues to deal with, and competing interests to consider on many of those issues. Given this it's important that the faculty and the rest of the university have the ability to use the Senate as a place to make our own views - and the strength of them - clear.

As we saw today the Senate can be a very effective way to do this, and I encourage everyone to continue to do so!
