Thank you, Jake for sharing the Disability Rights Oregon newsletter!
Note: The Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act (DD Act) establishes a network of organizations, including University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDDs), State Councils on Developmental Disabilities, and Protection and Advocacy Systems (P&As), to support individuals with developmental disabilities. These organizations, often referred to as the "DD Network," work collaboratively to promote self-determination, independence, productivity, inclusion, and integration for people with developmental disabilities.
Disability Rights Oregon (DRO) is the P&A agency for our state

Thanks for your patience as we resolved some technical hiccups with our email system! Here is the newsletter that should have reached you last month ...
Dear Heidi,
We’re more than halfway through a roller coaster year and grateful for Disability Pride Month, an annual celebration of a landmark civil rights law that made clear people with disabilities have an equal right to live, work, and participate in our society. Signed by President George H.W. Bush on July 26, 1990, the Americans with Disabilities (ADA) is 35 this year, and now is a powerful moment to reflect on how far we've come — including in this year’s legislative session<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/default.salsalabs.org/Te3343039-eafb-4d61-aced-5598788017a2/6a0ed977-5dd8-4ada-a810-9e5b0f874207__;!!C5qS4YX3!At7dQfI93F8u8fBKvyFo3p9T_xqUT1gyHlbuv25BcldNIwwyABiqc0AMazWEpnras-DvWTB3vFl7iZn8$> — and recommit to the work ahead.
Find Out If Oregon Bills That Impact You Passed<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/default.salsalabs.org/Td5be20ea-b394-405a-9e83-78cc9abb7638/6a0ed977-5dd8-4ada-a810-9e5b0f874207__;!!C5qS4YX3!At7dQfI93F8u8fBKvyFo3p9T_xqUT1gyHlbuv25BcldNIwwyABiqc0AMazWEpnras-DvWTB3vCkCkyzb$>
A Law That Changed Everything
The ADA didn't just change laws — it transformed how our society understands disability rights as civil rights, and its impact is everywhere: curb cuts that help people who use wheelchairs and other mobility devices navigate sidewalks, closed captioning that makes media accessible to Deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers, and workplace accommodations that enable millions of people with disabilities to contribute their skills and talents.
The Fight Continues
But challenges remain. Despite the ADA's protections, our community still faces barriers to jobs, education, healthcare, and more. That’s why, at Disability Rights Oregon, we do the work we do every day.
This legislative session, for example, we advocated to keep kids safe from abuse and neglect, for justice for sexual assault survivors, for healthcare access, fair employment, the right to repair wheelchairs<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/default.salsalabs.org/Tad4fd0ce-ddb3-4227-adb3-22cb1976c942/6a0ed977-5dd8-4ada-a810-9e5b0f874207__;!!C5qS4YX3!At7dQfI93F8u8fBKvyFo3p9T_xqUT1gyHlbuv25BcldNIwwyABiqc0AMazWEpnras-DvWTB3vOMHRwiH$>, and a whole lot more — and, as always, we have your dedicated support to thank.

Claiming Our Place
This year, we hope Disability Pride Month reminds you that pride means more than celebrating achievements. It's about claiming our community’s rightful place in society and never giving it up. The disability rights movement knows how to do that — together. See below for ways you can stay involved!
🤔 What Do You Think?
Your opinions are important and, right now, there are several opportunities to share them and drive progress toward what matters most to you:
· What Do You Think DRO Should Focus On? Every year, Disability Rights Oregon asks what issues are most important to our community members. Based on input we receive, our Board of Directors and Mental Health Advisory Council work with staff to decide our goals for the year ahead, prioritizing issues that will have the greatest impact on the most Oregonians with disabilities. Review our planned goals and priorities<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/default.salsalabs.org/T7314914a-e700-401e-8839-149e0cee1f77/6a0ed977-5dd8-4ada-a810-9e5b0f874207__;!!C5qS4YX3!At7dQfI93F8u8fBKvyFo3p9T_xqUT1gyHlbuv25BcldNIwwyABiqc0AMazWEpnras-DvWTB3vN_xjU4m$> and share your confidential feedback by completing one of the following surveys:
· English: surveymonkey.com/r/XXMNKV2 ><https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/default.salsalabs.org/Td655b358-f15a-4145-b65e-0307028ed71d/6a0ed977-5dd8-4ada-a810-9e5b0f874207__;!!C5qS4YX3!At7dQfI93F8u8fBKvyFo3p9T_xqUT1gyHlbuv25BcldNIwwyABiqc0AMazWEpnras-DvWTB3vLxCDKEm$>

· Healthcare Accessibility Survey: Are you an adult with a disability living in Oregon? We want to hear about your experiences getting healthcare — such as primary care, gynecology, or hospital services. Your stories will help us identify common access barriers and guide our efforts to improve care for people with disabilities statewide. Take the survey at surveymonkey.com/r/LRDMH2G ><https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/default.salsalabs.org/T8b6c2271-74db-47bb-8bcd-9a0a45593312/6a0ed977-5dd8-4ada-a810-9e5b0f874207__;!!C5qS4YX3!At7dQfI93F8u8fBKvyFo3p9T_xqUT1gyHlbuv25BcldNIwwyABiqc0AMazWEpnras-DvWTB3vOFs-njy$>
· Help OCDD Plan! The Oregon Council on Developmental Disabilities (OCDD) is required to develop a state plan to guide its work for the next five years. One activity they’re using to do that is asking Oregonians with intellectual or developmental disabilities, their families, and other members of the I/DD community what their priorities are. The survey is anonymous and should take about 10 minutes to complete:
