RE: Opportunity to comment on the 2021-2023 State Plan for Independent Living.

Now seeking public comment on the preliminary draft of the State Plan for Independent Living from people with disabilities and other stakeholders throughout Oregon.

The State Plan for Independent Living is required by federal law and indicates how the Independent Living Network is going to improve independent living services for individuals with disabilities over the next three years. It identifies the needs and priorities of consumers, providers and other stakeholders and sets forth goals and objectives to respond to them.

The draft plan was prepared by the State Independent Living Council and Oregon’s Centers for Independent Living after conducting surveys and focus groups with people with disabilities, disability advocates and community partners across the state. Through community engagement we better understand barriers to independence experienced by Oregonians.

The final plan will be in effect October 1, 2020 through September 30, 2023.

Ways you can comment on the plan include:

1.     Submit written comments directly to the State Independent Living Council. These must be received by March 6, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.

o   E-mail to oregon.silc at state.or.us<mailto:oregon.silc at state.or.us>. Include “State Plan Input” in the subject line.

o   Mail to Oregon State Independent Living Council, 500 Summer St NE, E-87, Salem, OR 97301.

2.     Provide comment at a hearing on March 6, 3:00-4:00 p.m. at the Salem Convention Center, 200 Commercial St SE, Salem, OR – Santiam Rooms 2 & 3. (Hearing rooms within this facility could change, so please check the facility reader boards upon arrival.) For underground parking, enter from Liberty St SE.
Alternate formats of this notice and the draft plan are available upon request.
To arrange for interpreter services, auxiliary aids or other accommodations for the March 6 hearing, please notify the SILC by 12:00 noon on Friday, February 21, 2020, though efforts will be made to arrange accommodations with at least 48-hour notice.
