We hope you are as excited as we are to receive the very first e-newsletter for the Franklin Boulevard Transformation project! You are receiving this e-mail because #1) you signed up to receive e-updates for the project or #2) you were identified as a stakeholder of the project and we knew this project would be important to you, so we put you on our list.
Your Voice is Needed
We are writing to remind you to be part of the transformation next week! The BEST opportunity to get involved is at the beginning of the design process, which is coming up next week when the City will be hosting an intense multi-day design workshop. During the Design Discovery Workshop, there are three opportunities to get involved with the project and provide your input.
Design Discovery Workshop Week
Monday, January 28th – Thursday, January 31st
This four-day workshop will gather community feedback and incorporate it into initial design concepts for a transformed Franklin Boulevard.
Appetizers or snacks will be provided at all events.
1) Attend the Community Kickoff Meeting Monday Night
Monday, January 28, 2019, 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Ford Alumni Center, Ballroom, 1720 East 13th Ave.
This event will orient attendees to the project and planning process, and to what the Franklin Boulevard Transformation project aims to accomplish. The City will ask for feedback about what works well and what doesn’t on Franklin today, and what Eugenians’ desires are for Franklin in the future. The design team will take what was heard Monday evening and begin working on the designs on Tuesday. This meeting will be live streamed online at https://media.uoregon.edu/channel/livestream<https://eugene-or.us14.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b0fe6c4eda5f68f34c6ec921a&id=a0e7d0d716&e=2645161b65>.
2) Stop by the Open Design Studio Hours on Tuesday
January 29, 2019, 4:00-7:00 p.m.
Romania Building, 2020 Franklin Blvd.
The University of Oregon is letting the City set-up a pop-up design studio in the Romania Building, which is the historic car dealership building on Franklin. The community is invited to stop by to see how design work is progressing on Tuesday. This open studio will allow Eugenians to see designers at work and peek at initial ideas for corridor transformation.
3) Attend the Reveal on Thursday Night
Thursday, January 31, 2019, 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Jaqua Center, Room 101, 1615 E. 13th Ave
This event will showcase the week’s work toward concept designs for transforming Franklin Boulevard. The City will present possible street cross sections and intersection designs along with information about how people traveling by different modes using the corridor could be affected by the design options. Designs will not be final at this meeting and will be further refined in the coming months.
During the Monday and Thursday evening meetings, child care will be available for free, provided by City of Eugene Recreation staff. If you plan to bring your kiddos so that we can take care of them while you are participating in the meeting, if possible, gives us a heads up to let us know what age(s) they are so that we can bring age appropriate fun! Send Larisa Varela an email at LVarela at eugen-or.gov, call or text her at (541)501-0351. Regardless, there will be City of Eugene Recreation staff on hand to take care of the kiddos, even if you don't have time to let us know your little ones are coming.
