Dear Heidi,

I wanted to reach out to your department to see if you would be interested in having a panel regarding disability issues on campus at one of your upcoming staff meetings (or other applicable event). The Accessible Education Center’s Student Voices Panel is a group of passionate volunteers who are dedicated to educating the campus community about issues pertaining to disability. Just like a prism is highly varied and faceted, so are the experiences of UO students.
Disability intersects with all other minority groups but is often overlooked when discussing diversity in society. This panel shines upon the stories of students experiencing disability and its impact on their trek through student life at University of Oregon. We hope that by interacting with our panel, the campus community will become more understanding and inclusive for all people with disabilities.Topics discussed in previous panels have included what it is like to have a disability and be a UO student, what it is like navigating accommodations, how to use more inclusive and empowering language, and dealing with prejudice. We are also more than happy to take prepared questions if you have any concerns specific to your department or employees.

The AEC Outreach team would really like to work with you to host a panel to help you make your department even more welcoming and accessible to people with disabilities. In addition, if you know of any students who may be interested in joining our panel, could you please forward them the attached information?
