Subject: Accessible Community Gardens: Eugene

Hello!

Northwest Youth Corps has been awarded a generous grant from Kingsford Manufacturing / Chlorox Co. to build some accessible community garden beds in the farm at our main headquarters (2621 Augusta St., Eugene, OR 97405).

It is our goal to center people with disabilities in the design, construction, and use of the garden beds, although professionals in fields such as accessibility or adaptive recreation, companions of people with disabilities, and any interested community members with or without disabilities are certainly welcome as well. No experience in gardening or construction required.

We want to make these beds as functionally accessible for as broad a range of abilities as possible. We're very excited to have this opportunity to get creative with what accessibility could look like, so we would love to hear your ideas. After the beds are built, they will be available for people with disabilities and their companions to use free of charge (including next growing season). We will have adaptive tools available and are happy to use grant funds to purchase more if needed.

Please contact me if you're interested in getting involved in any capacity or for more information!

A flyer about this project is attached. Please post it conspicuously and let me know if you would like hard copies mailed to you.

Best,

Mary Bowers
