Hi All,

I apologize for the last email- I have obviously now figured it out (accidently) how to share with the group. But I did want to share an opportunity!

Our intramural Sports Program here in PE & REC is starting a Unified Basketball League in partnership with Special Olympics. This program allows UO Students/fac/staff, referred to as "partners" to play on the same basketball team with local, adult Special Olympic athletes, referred to as "athletes". Teams will be comprised of half athletes and half partners, playing side by side! This program is becoming very popular with campus recreation departments across the country and provides a fun environment to promote social inclusion, build community, and create friendships and understanding.

Games will be consistently on Sundays at 11:30am-12:30pm in the SRC Uptown Basketball Courts. First date is this Sunday, Jan 28th and will run through Sunday, March 11th. On the first day we will offer a small orientation and do player assessment. Then all players will be divided into evenly skilled teams comprised of both athletes and partners. The following weekend you'll have the opportunity to have a team practice, and then we will start game play with a league and playoffs! High School basketball rules will apply and all games will be officiated by our student officials. We ask for only people who can consistently show up to sign up, as teams will depend on your being there! You do NOT have to be a great basketball player, we are mainly looking for people who will be supportive, encouraging and show good sportsmanship to all players, coaches, and staff.

If you are interested, please sign up on IMLeagues under the Unified Basketball tab or contact me and I will happily assist you and walk you through the process. Again this is only for UO Students/Fac/Staff. Please share with those who may be interested!

Thanks & hope to have you involved!
