Offering workshops on Universal Class Design, mental health and disability, technology resources, disabilities and employees, the roles and duties of service animals, and how to recognize and counter bias.

Organized by the Graduate Employee Union

Accommodations in the Workplace: 2:00-2:50, Straub 252. Join Heather Quarles (United Academics), Eleanor Wakefield (Graduate Teaching Fellows Federation), John Ahlen (Service Employees International Union) and Martin Stanberry (Affirmative Action) for a discussion about accommodation in the workplace for union and non-union-affiliated staff, faculty, and graduate employees. How does the accommodations process work? How can you help a fellow employee with getting an accommodation?

Disability on Campus Forum Introduction: Persons, Places, and Resources: 3:30-4:00, Straub 145. Meet the different members of our campus community who will be presenting workshops, and who help improve access and education for disabled students, faculty, and staff at the University of Oregon.

Mental Health and Disability: 4:00-4:30, 4:30-5:00, Straub 253. Kerrie Wilkens (Counseling and Testing Center) will discuss mental health resources on campus, the complicated interplay between mental health and disability, and how to help yourself and others.

Bias 101: 4:00-4:30, 4:30-5:00, Straub 145. The Bias Response Team will present a short discussion of disability and bias: how to recognize it, how to avoid it, and how the Bias Response Team can help.

Universal Course Design: 4:00-5:00, Straub 252. Lee Rumbarger (Teaching Effectiveness Program) and Hilary Gerdes (Accessible Education Center) will help you to make your course universally approachable, helping you design a truly supportive and diverse classroom environment.

Service Animals: 5:00-5:30, Straub 253. Heidi von Ravensberg, J.D. will discuss the growing trend of bringing "service animals" to campus and who is actually protected under the law. She has over 34 years of experience being partnered with five guide dogs (www.guidedogs.com<http://www.guidedogs.com/>). She teaches the Disability Rights Law Seminar at the UO School of Law. Academic Accommodation Basics: 5:00-6:00, Straub 252. Hilary Gerdes, Ph.D of the Accessible Education Center will discuss disabilities and academic programs: what is an academic accommodation, how can you get one or help someone with one, and how can the AEC help you?

Technology and Resources: 5:30-6:00, 6:00-6:30, Straub 145. Led by James Bailey (Accessible Education Center). Learn how to make your course materials more accessible for all learners. Observe the specialized software your students with reading and comprehension issues use to read and understand your course materials.

Life Worth Living: Fighting for Disability Rights (a film by Eric Neudel): 6:30-8:00, Straub 145. As a capstone to the forum, join us for a movie night on the disability rights movement. Stick around for a discussion afterwards!
