FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

“In the Studio” with DanceAbility

Teens with a full spectrum of abilities and disabilities demonstrate the power of connecting through dance.

Eugene, Oregon –On November 19th DanceAbility will be showcasing an inspiring performance from our “Everyone Can Dance” teen’s program. This enlightening show features teens from our local area that represents a full spectrum of abilities and disabilities as they celebrate the joy of dance together. This show opens the hearts and minds of both children and adults, by dissolving barriers between people with and without disabilities.

This performance is a celebration of the completion of a ten week class that emphasized creative movement, camaraderie and ‘body fluency’ through the unique DanceAbility method, which always ensures that nobody is isolated, no matter what kind of physical or mental abilities are present or not.

The class is attended by a wide range of students, from a boy with Down Syndrome who karate kicks his name in the opening circle every class, to a boy with very little autonomous motion who enjoys the class with an aide, to kids with Autism who were present in the spring session and participate with attention and focus. Music is a big part of class, and one student in particular likes to find the right song to start class, his favorite right now being "Le Petit Fleur" by Sidney Bechet Orchestra.

Jana Meszaros, the group’s DanceAbility teacher stated “teaching these students is as challenging as it is rewarding. It's been about fun. It's been about providing a space for students to dance and have freedom in their choice-making. At the end of a large group exercise, the entire class claps and laughs at what we are accomplishing together. There are a lot of successful moments. “

In addition to this unique performance, guest professional dance artists led by DanceAbility teacher Jana Meszaros will show an inspiring choreographed mixed-abilities piece.

For more information or to interview teacher Jana Meszaros or a teen participant in the class, please contact Sara Zolbrod at 541-342-3273 or email her at sara at danceability.com<mailto:sara at danceability.com>.

“In the Studio” with DanceAbility will be at the Hilyard Community Center, 2580 Hilyard St, Eugene, OR 97405

Thursday, November 19th from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Open to the public. Free
