Hello Prev Sci students,

Please see the announcement below regarding travel awards for the upcoming conference—note the April 18th deadline for applications! Many of the students in our program have been successful in receiving these awards in the past, it is definitely worth the time to apply, especially if you are presenting.

In addition, I am using some internal faculty funds to offer $500 travel scholarships for up to 10 students this year. SPR is one of the primary professional societies in prevention science. Attending the meeting is a great way to learn more about your professional field, meet other graduate students in the field, and network with faculty and funders. Once every 3 years the meeting is held outside of Washington, DC and 2022 is the year! The meeting is in Seattle, May 31-June 3. May 31th is the “preconference workshop” day, and several of the workshops have a 75% discounted rate or are free this year, due to sponsorships. See here for more details on the meeting:

Priority will be given to students who are an author or co-author on a paper or poster at the conference or are in the SPR Cup, and those who do not have another source of funding. Check with your advisor to discuss possible available sources of funding before applying.

Requirements for this internal SPR travel award:
* Current PREV doctoral or masters student in good standing
* Attend at least 3 full paper sessions and 1 poster session, at the conference (there is great food and networking at the evening poster sessions)
* Member of ECPN, which is the student network arm of SPR  (http://www.preventionresearch.org/ecpn-mission/). ECPN also offers travel scholarships—see below and apply!
* Submit a blog/summary of each of the sessions you attend (~250 words per session)

If you are interested in being considered for a SPR travel award, send an email to me with by April 15th. Include your name, whether you are presenting (and if so, what you are presenting), and confirmation that you don’t have other internal funding for conference travel. Students will be notified by the end of April with a decision.

The Early Career Preventionists Network (ECPN) is a standing committee of the Society for Prevention Research. Each year the ECPN plans several events and activities on the SPR Annual Meeting program. These include the ECPN Luncheon and session, two invited sessions which address topics of special interest for early career prevention researchers, the ECPN Social Event, and the ECPN Student Poster Contest. All conference attendees are welcome to attend all EPCN events and activities. We especially encourage all ECPN Travel Award recipients to attend.
