Subject: coe-staff: EMPL Seminar Series - Monday, April 22
Greetings!
Interested in education policy and practice? Eager to hear about some of the latest research and contributions to this field by UO faculty and graduate students?
This is a reminder to check out the seminar series in the department of Educational Methodology, Policy, and Leadership this February through June! With one to two seminars scheduled each month, there are sure to be a few topics to pique your interest. See the attached flyer for details. Some light refreshments will be offered to those who attend, but Zoom connection will be available for off-campus attendees as well.
If you missed any of the first three sessions, you can view them at the following links:
(1) David Liebowitz and Lorna Porter, "The Effects of Principal Behaviors on Student, Teacher, and School Outcomes: A Meta-analysis": https://youtu.be/RTI1lFv9ZMQ
(2) Ilana Umansky, "Gaps in Outcomes among English Learner Students: An Exploratory Methods Study of Chinese and Latinx Reclassification": https://youtu.be/8XWcwW6WY94

(4) Gina Biancarosa, "Breaking New Ground in Reading CBMs: DIBELS 8th Edition": https://youtu.be/PL5lw2cI1RM
The fifth session of the EMPL Seminar Series will be Monday, April 22. Professor Kathleen Scalise will be presenting:
Process Data: The Role of Semi-structured & Unstructured Evidence
Kathleen Scalise will present some material from her 2018 invited talk at the National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME). In the third Measurement Problems invited session at NCME 2018, panelists examined unsettled questions that vex us today and identified new measurement challenges that are emerging or are likely to emerge in a world in which the walls between assessment and instruction/learning are being broken down. Panelists were asked to discuss measurement in the context of a world of personalized instruction with a focus on the individuals' learning and growth, drawing directly on some portion of Howard Wainer's historic 1993 article, "Measurement Problems," on 16 measurement dilemmas. Kathleen Scalise's presentation on process data analyses through emerging learning analytics and the intersection of measurement science will be recapped in the U. Oregon EMPL presentation.
Hope to see you there and in the future! Abstracts for upcoming sessions will be provided via email reminders a few days in advance, so stay tuned!
Best,
