Dear PREV students,
Are you interested in learning about meta-analysis data collection methods? Or are you interested in earning some additional money this summer? If so, you may be interested in these graduate research assistant positions on my meta-analysis projects at the Prevention Science Institute. These positions are hourly graduate research assistant positions for up to 8 hours/week (note: these are NOT GE positions). See below for additional details.

Job Description:

With supervision and support, these positions involve assisting with one or more of Dr. Tanner-Smith's meta-analysis projects at the Prevention Science Institute. The goals of these projects are to collect and synthesize evidence from prior research studies to examine:

*       the comparative effectiveness of brief alcohol interventions for adolescent and young adults (for more information, see https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/display_record.php?RecordID=92348);

*       the effects of brief substance use interventions delivered in general healthcare settings (see for more information, see https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/display_record.php?RecordID=86832);

Duties will include data collection via systematic coding of research reports, as well as general assistance with data collection and data management tasks. These positions can also offer opportunities for conducting data analysis and collaborating on presentations/publications.



Key Functions and Expected Performances:

*       Participate in training on standardized coding protocol to learn data extraction tools and procedures; establish reliability on coding protocol.

*       Search for eligible research studies via electronic databases, internet, references in published material, and citations in relevant research papers.

*       Screen abstracts and full text reports to assess eligibility for inclusion in the meta-analysis, using standardized coding protocol.

*       Read research reports and extract pertinent information, using standardized coding protocol.

*       Function cooperatively and effectively with other members of the research team.

Minimum Requirements:

The position requires a Bachelor's degree in a social science discipline, but a Master's is preferred.

The position requires successful completion of at least one graduate level statistics course and one research design/methods course. Additional coursework in advanced statistical methods is desired, but not required.

Experience with Excel, FileMaker, R, SAS, SPSS, or Stata is preferred but not required.



Additional information:

These are part-time, hourly RA positions that require no more than 8 hours per week.

The start date for these positions will be June 16, 2018 (but earlier start dates in spring term are also possible).
