Subject: grad-dir: Mandatory New Graduate Employee (GE) Training

Dear Colleagues,

I’m hopeful you will share this with your students who will be Graduate Employees (GE) for the first time Winter term, 2018. We will also reach out directly to new GEs and to GEs who may have missed the fall training in December and January as well but, it’s always helpful if they hear from all of you as well.

The UO Graduate School will be providing a mandatory training for all new Graduate Employees (GE), Thursday, January 11th 1:00-5:00 PM in the Crater Lake Rooms, EMU. For those unable to attend on the 11th we will offer a makeup session Saturday, January 20th 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the Cedar Spruce Rooms, EMU. This training, which is a product of the contract negotiations with the GTFF, will provide new employees with knowledge of university policies, resources, and strategies for dealing with challenges they may face in your new role as instructors, administrators, and researchers at the UO. It will cover topics such as sick leave, Title IX policies, the Americans with Disabilities Act, resources available to employees, and other issues pertinent to your role as a Graduate Employee.

Attendance will be recorded, and students will be paid for the time they spend in the training. Once they have completed the training, they have fulfilled their obligation, and do not have to take the training again in subsequent terms. If you do not participate in the training you risk losing subsequent GE appointments.

Please RSVP below.
