Subject: GS Distinguished Alum Speaker William Hawley, Oct 5, 4:00 pm

Hi select DGSs and Grad Coordinators,

We hope you've heard about the Grad School's "Distinguished Alumni Speaker Program" already! The inaugural speaker may be of particular interest to YOUR students - please talk it up and spread the word.

The first speaker is William Hawley, a CDC biologist (with a UO PhD!) who serves as chief of the entomology branch in the Division of Parasitic Diseases and Malaria at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He's had a really extraordinary career (see attached bio).

Hawley's "big" talk - open and accessible to all - is Wednesday Oct 5, from 4-5 pm in 101 Jaqua. He will be available afterwards for conversation.

He will give a second talk, more specifically targeted for biologists but still open to all, will be held Thursday from noon-1 p.m. in the Lawrence Lounge (Room 115, Lawrence Hall).

If students or faculty in your department would like a one-on-one or small group meeting with Dr. Hawley while he is here, please contact Jessica Wilson (wilson21 at uoregon.edu<mailto:wilson21 at uoregon.edu>) in Biology.

Please let your students know - we want them to be inspired by Dr. Hawley, seeing how far a UO graduate degree can take them! We also want to show a returning Duck a warm welcome.
