[OLAC-credits] Logons and tracking/credit

Chris Fitzpatrick, the developer I've been working with, recently took a new day job and hasn't had much time to work on the site. However, he did just add some code that will track how many credits you do during a session and let you know where you're at. I have asked him to change "records" to "credits," but otherwise think it works. Annotate a few credits and check it out. If you have any other wording or other suggestions, let me know.

He is also going to add the ability to logon with individual user accounts. It is apparently pretty simple to do this using existing FB/Google/Twitter logons. However, I am inclined to ask him to also develop a standalone logon option specific to the OLAC credit annotation site for people who don't use FB/Google/Twitter or who don't want to log on with those accounts. I think this is more difficult so before I ask him to do that, I'd like to ask your opinion. Would you be happy using an existing FB/Google/Twitter logon or would you rather have one specific to this site? I am planning to continue to allow anonymous users so either way, you won't have to log on at all.

There is also the question of what to track. For individual users, I am planning to ask him to track the number of credits annotated (count 1 for each time the user hits the submit button) and also the number of lines added (count 1 for the initial line and one for each time you use "Add a new line for another name or role" to make a new line). Tracking lines should help account for the fact that some credits are longer than others. I would like to group these stats by the language of role or function (what you select in the dropdown list). I think that will be more useful than the language of the film or video. You should be able to see your stats when you log in.

There will also be some total stats plus some kind of list of the top contributors. I often leave the details of implementation up to Chris, but if anyone has any suggestions for either data to track and display for the individual user accounts or for the totals and top contributors, please let me know.

Kelley

PS Today's most interesting credit: "a Danny Shechter dissection" which seems to be a variant of "a so-and-so film"
