Dear IACUC Community,
The Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation (OVPRI) is continuing to advance our animal research community through the implementation of a new tool to support the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
After careful consideration by OVPRI leadership and the project team, the project timeline has been extended and we plan to go-live with the new IACUC tool in late summer 2022. An exact date will be communicated next year.
In adjusting the timing, we were motivated to:
* ensure investigators a smooth roll-out and transition from the current system (eAPM),
* allow the Animal Welfare Services team more time to develop and build adequate support resources for the new tool, and
* provide the team time to prepare for the AAALAC International accreditation renewal process which will take place in the first half of 2022.
What does this mean for you?
Protocol submissions, renewals, and amendments will continue to take place in eAPM through the first half of 2022. This will allow the project team to migrate more information and consolidate a library of standard procedures.
Investigators and their teams will need to fully populate and validate protocols in the new system after go-live and prior to any protocol amendments or modifications.
What’s Next?
The project team will continue working on the project and will begin user testing in mid- to late-January 2022. More precise timing and information about the transition will be available in the coming months.
How to Stay Informed
We will keep the community informed on the progress of this project with periodic communications. Project Background
The new IACUC tool is part of the phased implementation of the Research Administration Portal (RAP)<https://research.uoregon.edu/manage/research-administration-portal>, a suite of integrated tools that will support researchers and staff as they work through compliance and administration activities. In a world where compliance is becoming increasingly complex, this system will integrate information and ease the burden on our investigators. We are confident that implementation of this system will serve the community well.
The system will offer a single dashboard from which investigators will be able to effectively manage a range of research compliance activities including submissions that cover human subjects research (live), conflict of interest, grant submissions, effort reporting, and IACUC.
We look forward to offering the research community one stop shopping for many of their compliance needs. As these new tools are implemented, we will be phasing out our existing systems. By being part of this process, you are helping us transform research administration allowing you to focus more energy on your research, scholarship, and creative activities. We are excited to take these steps forward together.
If you have any questions about the new IACUC tool or this initiative, I invite you to share those by emailing rapinfo at uoregon.edu<mailto:rapinfo at uoregon.edu>.
