*Remote Trainings:*
*Corrective Reading Decoding Level A
<https://www.nifdi.org/training-events/events-calendar/remote-training/dec-a-oct25.html>*Friday,
October 3, 7:30 am-2:30 pm PT
The Corrective Reading program provides systematic reading instruction to
students performing below grade-level expectations in grades 3 and above.
Corrective Reading Decoding A supports non-readers, those who are extremely
deficient in decoding skills, by teaching sound-spelling relationships,
reading strategies for sounding out words, and applying those strategies
both in isolation and in context. Students who place into Decoding A may
recognize some words but lack adequate strategies to successfully read
words like frost and track.
*Reading Mastery Signature Edition (RMSE) Grade K Reading (Two-Part
Training)
Friday, October 10 & Thursday, October 16, 7:30 am-2:30 pm PT
Due to the amount of material covered in this training, it is divided over
two days. Learn to effectively implement Reading Mastery Signature Edition
Grade K Reading, a beginning reading program for non-reading children. The
RMSE Grade K program systematically teaches all the prerequisite skills
children need to master the fundamentals of beginning literacy, including
phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Upon
mastery of the skills taught in Grade K, children are ready to expand their
reading skills to Grade 1 reading standards. Participants will learn the
technical delivery skills needed to support children in developing these
essential reading skills.
*Corrective Reading Decoding Levels B1 & B2
<https://www.nifdi.org/training-events/events-calendar/remote-training/dec-b-oct25.html>*Friday,
October 17, 7:30 am-2:30 pm PT
The Corrective Reading program provides systematic reading instruction to
students performing below grade-level expectations in grades 3 and above.
Corrective Reading Decoding B1 refines word-attack skills by teaching
sounds and sound combinations, introducing new vocabulary, and promoting
word discrimination. There is a strong emphasis on fluency-building, as
well as comprehension, through daily reading of decodable, connected text.
Corrective Reading Decoding B2 continues the instructional sequence of
Level B1, focusing on student practice in word attack and spelling,
vocabulary development, and daily reading of decodable, connected text.
Practice for rate and accuracy, as well as charting daily fluency progress,
are features that help students recognize their progress and increase their
motivation to work hard to build reading skills and catch up to their
grade-level peers. Students who place into Decoding B1 or B2 often have
inconsistent reading skills and frequently guess at words, rather than
applying decoding strategies that will lead to accurate word reading.
*Reading Mastery Signature Edition (RMSE) Grade 1 Reading*
<https://www.nifdi.org/training-events/events-calendar/remote-training/rmse1-oct25.html>
Friday, October 24, 7:30 am-2:30 pm PT
Learn to effectively implement Reading Mastery Signature Edition Grade 1
Reading, which is the second level of the Reading Mastery series.
Participants will learn the technical delivery skills needed to support
children as they learn and apply strategies for decoding difficult words,
increase fluency in passage reading, and develop comprehension strategies.
Participants will also learn how RMSE Grade 1 develops basic reasoning
skills such as making inferences, drawing conclusions, and working
independently.
*In-Person Events:*
*Coaching Academy I: Analyzing Data, Classroom Observations, and Providing
Feedback
<https://www.nifdi.org/training-events/events-calendar/training-event/ca1-2025.html>*
November 13 & 14, 2025 • Orlando, Florida
With effective peer coaching, staff development, and strong leadership,
teachers using Direct Instruction will improve dramatically, and students
will progress farther and faster than they ever have before.
An effective coach will help the Direct Instruction teacher evolve from a
technician to an engineer of instruction. This session will provide
participants with information and practice in:
- Communicating with staff in order to increase instructional
effectiveness.
- Refining observational skills to increase the coach's ability to
provide data-driven feedback.
- Determining the appropriate intervention based on data and observation.
- Utilizing a variety of interventions (in-class coaching, 1:1 rehearsal
sessions).
- Designing and delivering efficient ongoing professional development
sessions.
- Facilitating Data Analysis Team meetings to find and solve student
performance problems in a timely manner.
*5th Annual Rocky Mountain Mind, Brain & Education Conference (researchED
Denver)* <https://researched.org.uk/event/researched-denver/>
September 13, 2025 • Denver, Colorado
Join DI Author Dr. Marcy Stein at the 5th Annual Rocky Mountain Mind, Brain
& Education Conference hosted by the Denver Museum of Nature & Science in
partnership with researchED. This conference brings together K-12 educators
and university researchers with a common interest in applying
research-based methods from psychology and neuroscience to their practice.
Marcy will be presenting the session:
Beyond the Checklist: A Research-Based Framework for Evaluating
Instructional Programs
Curriculum decisions have lasting effects on student achievement, yet
programs are often selected using superficial checklists. This session
introduces a research-based framework for evaluating instructional
materials, grounded in Learning Science and Direct Instruction design
principles. Dr. Marcy Stein will present key research findings and
practical criteria for selecting or refining programs. The session will
also clarify the differences between generic “direct instruction” and the
validated “Direct Instruction” model—differences with significant
implications for student outcomes.
