I happened to be listening to On Point yesterday and was pleased to hear some sensible talk about reading instruction. Emily Hanford is an education correspondent the seems to “get it”. She pointed to research on how struggling readers develop ineffective strategies for reading, and these are the same strategies that are taught in balanced literacy.
