|  |
| It's with sadness that I share the news of the passing of Siegfried Engelmann, a shining light of education. Zig, as he was known to those of us who knew and adored him, was a genius. His expertise was figuring out and “engineering” instruction so that children learned to read and do math successfully and at advanced levels starting in kindergarten. Despite its critics, Zig and Direct Instruction (DI) did more for at-risk students than any other method of instruction.  |

| Zig greatly impacted my own teaching practice and I am undyingly grateful for having had the opportunity to know and learn from him. |
|  |
| I am honored to share this remembrance of Zig who left this world on February 15, 2019. He will be missed. |
