This CLLAS research colloquium brings together three CLLAS-funded scholars whose work examines how storytelling, film, and digital media shape culture, identity, and power in Latin America. Featuring research by Guillem Belmar Viernes (Associate Professor of Linguistics), Omar Barahona (PhD Student, Spanish), and Giovanni Francischelli (PhD Student, Communication and Media Studies) the colloquium explores how media, from Indigenous language storytelling to documentary films and online platforms, actively constructs social and political realities in Latin America.

Equity in Practice: Institutions and Latine Experiences in Education and Work

This CLLAS research colloquium brings together two CLLAS-funded scholars whose work examines how institutions shape Latine experiences of equity, belonging, and representation across educational and workplace settings. Featuring research by Janette Avelar (PhD Candidate, Quantitative Research Methods in Education) and Chanel Meyers (Assistant Professor of Psychology), the colloquium explores how schools and corporate organizations design, signal, and enact commitments to equity—and how Latine individuals perceive and navigate these institutional environments.
