Hello, CPSY community!
Please see this invitation below to participate in an ASIST training, led by CFT student, hannah white.
You are invited to register for an upcoming Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) on Friday, May 22nd and Saturday May 23rd. Participants must be present both days 9:00 - 5:00 to receive certification. This training is open to all HEDCO-based graduate students and affiliated staff.
To register: please complete this form: https://oregon.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8CB2GzhDOUZvEBE by Monday, May 11. You will receive a confirmation email with more information about location (on campus, likely in HEDCO) and what to expect about a week out from the training.
If you register and later find out you're no longer able to make it (other than emergencies of course), please let me know. LivingWorks has stringent participant number guidelines that we do our best to uphold. (More information about ASIST below!) Any questions can be directed to hannah at hwhite3 at uoregon.edu<mailto:hwhite3 at uoregon.edu>.
More Info on ASIST:
Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid. ASIST teaches participants to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Although ASIST is widely used by healthcare providers, participants don't need any formal training to attend the workshop.
Learning Goals and Objectives
Over the course of the two-day workshop, ASIST participants learn to:
* Understand the ways that personal and societal attitudes affect views on suicide and interventions
* provide guidance and suicide first aid to a person at risk in ways that meet their individual safety needs
* identify the key elements of an effective suicide safety plan and the actions required to implement it
* Appreciate the value of improving and integrating suicide prevention resources in the community at large
* Recognize other important aspects of suicide prevention including life-promotion and self-care
Workshop Features
* Presentations and guidance from two LivingWorks registered trainers
* A scientifically proven intervention model
* Powerful audiovisual learning aids
* Groups discussions
* Skills practice and development
* A balance of challenge and safety
