Dear Members of the CPSY Community,

I'm excited to add my welcome to the one already offered by, Dr. Leve! As the new academic year begins and I step more fully into my role as CPSY program director, I want to express my deep gratitude to the students, staff, and faculty who have, over the years, contributed their time, energy, and ideas to the CPSY program and its continuous improvement. For this year, I hope to honor and build on these efforts through initiatives focused on communication and self-care. I look forward to partnering with each of you to leverage our collective strengths to promote ongoing growth, for us individually and as a program.

To students, whether you have academic questions/concerns, personal challenges, or want to share your achievements, I’m here to support your success and wellbeing. For fall term, I will hold a drop-in office hour on Wednesdays from 9:30-10:30am in my office (HEDCO 349). If this time does not work for you, or if you prefer to reserve a time to meet, please see my availability and book an appointment via my Microsoft Bookings page<https://outlook.office.com/bookwithme/user/18c9a819662e48698e4df42a155ce37f@uoregon.edu?anonymous&ep=plink>. My Bookings page link also appears at the end of my signature line in every email I send.

A few other important start-of-the-year announcements:

  * I want to express my gratitude to the past and present leadership of the Student Advocacy and Leadership Association (SALA) and encourage students to consider serving in one of the currently vacant roles on the SALA board (about which students should have received an email from SALA Co-facilitators, Daisy and Hillary).

  * There are two student events happening this Friday, September 29th. Food will be provided at both:

o From 9:00-10:30am in Susan Campbell Hall 111, the Accessible Education Center (AEC) and the Division of Graduate Studies (DGS) are hosting an event<https://graduatestudies.uoregon.edu/professional-development/opportunities/affiliates> for graduate students with disabilities and/or who are neurodivergent to connect, network, and learn about accommodations.

o From 10:45-11:50am in the Knight Library, room 101, CPHS will hold the first combined graduate seminar (“GradSem”) of the year.

        * Please note the start time, which is later than usual to support student attendance at the AEC/DGS event.
        * This particular GradSem is open to doctoral- and masters-level students across CPSY, PREV, and CFT.
        * CPSY doctoral students and faculty (not on sabbatical) are expected to attend.
        * This GradSem will be a time for CPHS-wide and CPSY-program-specific community building and to communicate important announcements, including new resources being provided by the Division of Graduate Studies to support student success.

  * CPSY needs to appoint a new representative to the COE Dean’s Student Advisory Board (DSAB).
     * As shared by the COE Dean’s office: “The primary function of the DSAB is to furnish the Dean with insights into students' needs and experiences, offer counsel on a wide array of college affairs, and serve as a platform for disseminating pertinent College information that directly impacts our students.”
     * Please consider nominating yourself or a peer for this important role by emailing cpsy at uoregon.edu<mailto:cpsy at uoregon.edu> by no later than Tuesday, October 3rd. Please put “DSAB nomination” in the subject line.
     * All nominations will be considered by the faculty, and the selected representative will be notified by Thursday, October 5th to confirm their willingness to serve (before we have to submit the representative’s name to the Dean on Friday, October 6th).

I look forward to seeing you all on Friday if not sooner!

Best,
Jess

The University of Oregon is located on Kalapuya Ilihi, the traditional indigenous homeland of the Kalapuya people. Today, descendants are citizens of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians of Oregon, and they continue to make important contributions in their communities, at UO, and across the land we now refer to as Oregon.
