Greetings CPSY community and CPHS colleagues:
Yet again, we have witnessed and experienced another act of severe violence enacted in one of our communities in our country. Again, this was one perpetrated by hatefulness and ethno-national racism, and this time, Buffalo NY was the target. This ethno-national / white racism has been ever-present in US culture, and in the last 6 years has been celebrated as part of a national and open political and social agenda.
In a time of anxiety, uncertainty, and fear, we want you to know that we stand together - especially to support the most vulnerable among us, and especially to "be with" those of us in our own community who look and identify like the victims of this most recent act of violence.
We cannot take away the fear and anxiety and pervasive sense of loss that many members in our small community experience. But we can stand together. We can say and do say "I hear you" and "I am here for you".
Please reach out to each other today and this week. Please keep the victims and families of the victims, and the entire marginalized and highly segregated community in Buffalo where this most recent act occurred in your thoughts and send compassion, understanding, and grace.
We share with you this feeling of solidarity that many in our community feel, and we know it can never be enough.
Peace to you all,
Benedict & Ellen
