The Springfield Research Grants
2022 The Springfield Research Fund Grants: $20,000
Due May 15, 2022

The Springfield Research Fund Grant supports research of contemporary LGBTQIA+ issues in an effort to dispel stereotypes and other negative information that leads to prejudice and discrimination. Two grants of up to $20,000 each are available. The 2022 area of preference will be given to research that addresses intersectional stigmas.

One grant of $3,750 to support faculty who teach at primarily undergraduate-serving institutions and who identify undergraduate education as their primary focus.

2022 Division 18 Grant: $750
Due June 1, 2022

The Division 18 grant supports efforts in research and professional development that advance public service. Division 18 is particularly interested in supporting graduate student and early career psychologists’ research. Additionally, Division 18 is interested in supporting professional development and service by division members, which contribute to the science and practice of public service psychology. In 2022, Division 18 will grant $750 on graduate or ECP research proposals and $750 on professional development proposals.

$4,000 for scholarly contributions to the philosophical foundations of psychological knowledge. Self-nominations are permitted.

Eligibility: Applicants must be psychologists with an EdD, PsyD, or PhD from accredited universities. Applicants must demonstrate contributions to the philosophical foundations of psychology, particularly over the last five to 10 years (psychologists of all levels of careers will be considered within this criterion).

$2,000 to support dissertation research that addresses any aspect of mental function (e.g., cognition, affect, motivation) and seeks to understand the mind from both a behavioral and neural perspective.

The Division 49 grants support research and scholarly works that further the advancement of group psychology. The group psychology grant supports innovative group psychology research focused toward groups in applied settings. McCary Division 39 Grant
2022 APF/ Marsha D. McCary Division 39 Fund Grant for Psychoanalysis: $7,000
Due June 30, 2022

The Marsha D. McCary Division 39 Fund for Psychoanalysis, named for the Fund’s founder, gives annual grants to recognize and promote the contributions of psychoanalysis to psychology and to societal well-being more generally. Through the annual grants, Division 39 seeks to advance psychoanalysis by supporting new developments in education, research and service that demonstrate the value of psychoanalytic principles and treatments to the public. Division 39 is particularly interested in projects that show the applicability of psychoanalytic ideas to pressing clinical, organizational, and social problems.

Eligibility: Applicants must have a demonstrated knowledge of psychoanalytic principles and have a long-term interest in communicating to the public the value of psychoanalytic principles and/or treatments. Applicants may be practicing psychoanalytic therapists, but this is not a requirement.

COGDOP Scholarships
2022 APF/COGDOP Graduate Student Scholarships: $5,000
Due June 30, 2022

$2,000 to $5,000 general scholarships for graduate students in psychology. The purpose of this scholarship program is to assist graduate students of psychology with research costs associated with the master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation.

Each graduate department of psychology that is a member of COGDOP may approve applicants. The number of applicants that each member department is allowed to approve depends upon the total number of students enrolled in the graduate program.

Eligibility: Graduate students enrolled in an interim master’s program or doctoral program are eligible to apply. If a student is currently enrolled in a terminal master’s program, the student must intend to enroll in a PhD program. Students at any stage of graduate study are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be enrolled in the graduate program at the time grants are awarded (2022- 2023 academic year).

Brehm Undergraduate Scholarships
2022 Sharon Stephens Brehm Undergraduate Psychology Scholarships: $5,000

The Sharon Stephens Brehm undergraduate psychology scholarships will recognize outstanding psychology undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need. The Brehm scholarships will help defray the students’ direct educational costs (e.g. tuition, institutional fees, required textbooks, etc.). Seven $5,000 scholarships are available. Funding will be available to recipients for the spring 2023 semester.

Eligibility: Applicants must be undergraduate students majoring in psychology at an accredited college or university. Applicants must be enrolled as declared psychology majors for the fall 2022 semester. Since funding is available during the spring 2023 semester, applicants must plan to be enrolled during the spring 2023 semester.
