Hi everyone,
If you are not enrolling in the fall Supervision & Consultation class you can delete this email now.

For all of you wonderful current third-year students coming into your 4th year next year - or more advanced students who are planning on taking the supervision class - I wanted to update you on Fall schedule.

  1. The fall class will be Tuesday evenings (instead of Thursday evenings). We meet from about 4-8 pm (not the whole time - I leave this very open schedule so we can adjust as needed - e.g. we might meet from 4:30-7:30 instead, or earlier or later as the group needs. The total time will only be 3 hours).
  2.
  3. If you anticipate a problem with Tuesday night instead of Thursday night, please let me know asap.
  4.
  5. This class involves an additional group supervision meeting during the week. (This is why the class is 4 credits- it has a practical/applied component). In the past I have gathered up schedules and set up small supervision groups for you based on your schedule. This coming fall 2022 I hope its simpler. I would like to have you meet with your small supervision group on Monday mornings, anywhere from 8:30-10:00 AM. These typically start week 3 of the term.
  6.
  7. If you anticipate a problem with a Monday morning "Lab" meeting for this class, please let me know. There is always a practice/lab component for everyone, regardless, but if Monday will not work out I should know now.
  8.
  9. Your supervision activity will be supervising small groups of students learning beginning counseling and interviewing skills from the Helping Skills (Micro-skills) class. This coming year I hope to make that class a "flipped classroom" in which they review the course content, look at video examples, see my lectures, etc. all on-line, and then come in Mondays for a brief Q and A, brief orientation lectures, brief demonstrations, etc. and then mainly use the Monday morning time for their small practice groups - that you supervise.
  10.
  11. As you can imagine - scheduling a bunch of small rooms on Monday morning will be quite a "thing"- but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it!!

Thanks all and I hope you are all doing well-- enjoy the final rush of the term and have a good spring break!

Benedict
